2:00 PM HOMEWOOD LIBRARY – 1721 OXMOOR ROAD 35209
NEXT MEETING SUNDAY, JULY 12th, 2015 THE SECOND SUNDAY
LAST MONTH’S MEETING / THIS MONTH’S MEETING
Thanks to Todd Jones for providing the last 2 months’ programs with his early radio days sound check tapes, commercials, and DJ chatter. It was fun hearing from some old Birmingham favorites as well as some out of town guys spin some platters.
And the hits just keep on coming. Don’t miss our June meeting this Sunday. Our very special guest will be Travis Wammack. We have been trying to find a time when his schedule would fit ours and it finally happened. I’m sure Travis will have some very special memories and stories to share with us. Travis has become a very good friend of BRC and is always very thankful for our interest in his career. Make plans now to be there this Sunday.
PRESIDENT’S UPDATE
Just about now is when things swing into high gear for this year’s record show. The flyers have been designed, printed and we are ready for distribution to every place we can find to put one up. A copy has been sent to Elvis Wade who will perform on Saturday night at the Hall Of Fame Induction Show. He will send it to his thousands of fans. We will do the post cards at the July meeting to get the word out that way. It isn’t too soon for all of us to tell our friends, and people we come in contact with about the BRC 3rd weekend in August extravaganza. I will be set up at the Atlanta Record show this month and will take flyers there to spread the word among dealers and buyers. Help us get the word out. Last year was the best attended show in my memory and this year should be even better.
I must be out of town the weekend of the meeting this month, and I should have planned better! Travis Wammack is going to be our guest for an interview and Q & A. Those of you that have caught his Thursday night shows in Russelville know how great he is. I look forward to seeing Don Campbell’s video of his talk when I get back.
I have asked Charlie Bailey to step back in and lead the meeting this month. I promise not to miss any more meetings. Spread the word folks, only 2 months until BRC-2015!
Ray
IN MEMORY
Since our last newsletter we lost 2 more of our musical icons – Ben E King and B. B. King. I don’t have to list either man’s accomplishments because you know these men very well. It has been a tough year for performers from the early years of rock and R&B and these men make the list even harder to read. One thing can be said about those we are losing now, they lived a good long life compared to guys like Elvis, Buddy Holly, Clyde McPhatter, and Rick Nelson to name a few. If you get a chance to see any of the early performers do it while you still can.
BRC NEWS
As of this time all of our tables for the August show have been requested and now it is time for the dealers to send in payment. There is a waiting list as well so if you have a table(s) reserved, please send in your money so there won’t be a chance of losing it. Thanks to Joe and David for their hard work in managing the dealer table part of the show.
And, as Ray said in his president’s update above we have quite a show planned for this year’s HOF induction. Along with our induction of Sandy Posey, Buddy Buie, and Sonny James we will have Dan Penn, Spooner Oldham, Travis Wammack, Donnie Fritts, Sandy Posey, and Elvis Wade performing for us. Should be a night to remember. OK, hall of fame committee, how do you top that next year.

I have someone who is looking for a copy of the Righteous Brothers 45, ‘Little Latin Lupe Lu’ on the Moonglow label. Record number M-215. If you have a copy for sale, please get with me and I’ll hook you up.
